Story

I feel so proud to have cowritten the following song with my dear friend and mentor, James Shipstone (aka Jim).

Don't get me wrong; I've always felt a sense of pride with all of my co-creations but I never thought I could or would write anything so universal as For Our Children. I hope that it strikes a chord, loud & clear, into the hearts of humankind and encourages people to change - to be more aware of connection and to strive to live their life in peace. xxx

Lyrics

V1

Can you see how far together we’ve come?

Let’s not watch it slowly coming undone;

It’s time to fight the fight of our lives

For our children (For our children), and their children (and their children).

V2

On this tangent we might make earth implode. (Send out love and hope;)

Lest we sprinkle faith and reach out to lighten the load; (Help each other-)

Try to leavea legacy, a perfect living seed, (by promising we still believe, and changing what we leave,)

For our children.

CH

Leave it better than we found it,

So the world will live in peace.  (What will it take to see all people live in peace?)

Better than we found it

Somewhere children will run free. (Are you listening? Please help us find the key.)

There’s a way to get around it,

If we connect all beating hearts,

We’ll find beautiful beginnings

And today is where it starts—

TAG

Find beautiful beginnings;

Today, is where it starts.

V3

Come on everybody, stand tall. (Can you hear the silence speak-)

Side by side, hearts open wide, let’s build a human wall; (to us?)

Something standing so strong it’ll never, ever fall, (Love and peace, could see-)

Leaving astronauts in outer space, in awe of what the human race (the cold war cease, if we-)

Can do. (want it to.)

CH

Leave it better than we found it,

So the world will live in peace. (The smallest sign of love can leave the brightest spark.)

Better than we found it

Somewhere children will run free. (Anybody’s love can lighten up the dark.)

There’s a way to get around it,

If we connect all beating hearts,

We’ll find beautiful beginnings

And today is where it starts—

TAG

Find beautiful beginnings;

Today, is where it starts.

CH/Bridge

Leave it better than we found it,

For our children. (Hand in hand we’re strong, no need to run and hide.)

Better than we found it

For our children. (Side by side we’ll fill the cup of human pride.)

There’s a way to get around it

If we connect all beating hearts,

For our children (and their children)

For our children (and their children)

For our children (and their children)

For our children

TAG

We’ll find beautiful beginnings—

Today, is where it starts.

OUTRO

For our children

For your children

We are the children.

Story

This song is about the need for humanity to live, side by side, in peace. For me, it's like a prayer... understanding that while we all have our own beliefs, we can still search out common ground where we can come together in peace.

Lyrics

V1

Please come and share my feast,

But we’ll leave God at the door;

While I honour your beliefs

I want to get to know you more.

V2

Please come and share your dreams,

Your every thought and prayer.

We both value love and peace

As foundations, so let’s start there.

CH

I can see, just like me,

You ache when your babies cry.

And if we were friends, then wars might end

And no one else would need to die, no.

Tag

No one else needs to die.

Bridge

If love is all that matters why does hate breathe?

If love is all that matters we all should believe.

When love is all that matters, peace can be found,

On common ground.

REPEAT V1

Please come and share my feast

We’ll leave God at the door;

While I honour your beliefs

I need to know you more.

CH

I can see, just like me,

You ache when your babies cry.

And if we were friends, then wars might end

And no one else would need to die, no.

Tag

No one else needs to die.

Outro

Oooooo, no one else needs to die. Ooooooo.

Story

*in loving memory of Jesse French- Assange*

This acoustic recording of All He Needs has an entirely different feel than that of the Pop version, giving the listener more time and space to hear what the song's really about and more in keeping with how it originally felt, for Kat & me. We very much appreciated working with Dinesh’s Ekanayake (Fusive Studios) during this process and thank him for his generosity, patience, understanding, and reassuring approach throughout the entire process.

This song matters. It's a clear example of why most writers write.

Honouring the very precious life of a young boy who passed from cancer when he was 6 years old, and written from a place of feeling, it's managed to reach and affect many people the world over during the process of winning an international songwriting competition.

Kat came to my home after speaking with Jesse's mum who'd shared some sad news—after a period of being in remission her little boy's cancer had returned and Kat, who'd known Jo for many years, felt helpless and terribly sad on hearing the news so she did what most writer's do... she wrote her feelings into the making of a song.

After writing the first verse, half of the chorus & already having established a melody to suit, Kat came to my place and after discussing what this precious little soul's difficult journey meant to her, we finished it.

I know this song's journey has meant a great deal to Jesse's mum, Jo and his immediate family and we hope that it continues to keep Jesse's spirit, and that of all his other little 'soul' mates, flying high. All proceeds from the sale of this song will be donated to the CCIA foundation set up in his memory to assist other families who are unexpectedly ambushed by the ticking hands of time.

Sending light and blessing to each and every one of you...

(the pop version of this song is also included under 'song demos' )

Lyrics

V1

I remember the day; it was a year ago, when you called me

And you told me, ’bout your boy

Choking on words I asked you ‘Jo, is there anything I can do?’ and you say

‘If you can cure him, that’s my wish’

CH

He’s got a heart as big as Rome

And his life to you is more than, he will ever know

He has, super powers and make believe

You give him hope, that’s all he needs

V2

You know it makes me laugh, this crumpled photograph

’cause when I see his smile

He sets me free and he rescues me, with his super human style

Trust in his magic; oh, that’s my wish

CH

He’s got a heart as big as Rome

And his life to you is more than, he will ever know

He has, super powers and make believe

You give him hope, that’s all he needs

Bridge

Ground Zero; our hero, he’ll carry you on his breeze

He caught me, he taught me, to fall free

CH X2

He’s got a heart as big as Rome

And his life to you is more than, he will ever know

He has, super powers and make believe

You give him hope, that’s all he needs

He’s got a heart as big as Rome

And his life to you is more than, he will ever know

He has, super powers and make believe

You give him hope, that’s all he needs

(OUTRO - acoustic version only)

All he needs, all he needs, oooooooh

You give him hope

A mother’s love

Story

These lyrics were written initially after reading an article about an Aussie artist battling cancer and how her mum's support was the key to her healing.

They sat, stored away as words for several years until I saw the extraordinary story of Charice Pempengco on Oprah. Charice shared her own story, having witnessed her mum being held at gunpoint when she was only three years old. Having survived that life-changing moment, Charice said no matter what she might face throughout  life, she would always sing for her mother.

Her story will stay with me always. I was so moved by her courage, truth, grace, and gift of selfless sharing.

I contacted my friend and co-writer, Kat and said 'I have some words that have been waiting for the right time and feel that time is now'. Kat's melodic and vocal interpretation, as always, left me in awe.

Attempts to pitch them for Charice have proven futile to date, nonetheless, I really like the intention behind this song as it carries real meaning and purpose. Although Kat's always liked the bridge idea, I'd have to say what I like most is the way the minor 'feel' throughout the verses somehow seem to find balance and resolution throughout the chorus.

So glad that you've found your way here - I hope you enjoy My Heart Will Sing Again.

Lyrics

V1

I was given a moment of true to life

And you watched the/my tears run dry down my cheek

I kept praying so hard to my angels

I tried to stop them from flying by

V2

I was caught underneath the shadows

I couldn’t see the light, but you were there,

And you cradled me so hard, to get me through the night

You get me, you get me

CH

Your strength, gave my spirit time to fly

Your arms allowed a place, my heart could lie

Where I felt safe just knowing, I had you near

Each time I felt your wings, I knew my heart would sing again

V3

I was given a moment in black and white

And you watched the colours fade away

But you looked in my eyes and made me promise you

I’d find them again some day

V4

And sometimes when I felt shattered

And I had no strength to fight

You were there and you cradled me, to get me through the night

You get me, you get me

CH

Your strength, gave my spirit time to fly

Your arms allowed a place, my heart could lie

Where I felt safe just knowing, I had you near

Each time I felt your wings, I knew my heart would sing-

Bridge

I’m not sure how it happened

They said I just fell

Right down to the bottom of a magic wishing well

And then just like Alice

I found a little door

That led me, it led me to-

CH X2

Your strength, gave my spirit time to fly

Your arms, allowed a place my heart could lie

Where I felt safe just knowing, I had you near

Each time I felt your wings, I knew, I knew-

Your strength, gave my spirit time to fly

Your arms, allowed a place my heart could lie

Where I felt safe just knowing, I had you near

Each time I felt your wings

I knew my heart would sing again

Again

Story

Delirious has given us a real taste of potential, to date winning a USA based international competition run by legendary producer, David Kershenbaum and also being a finalist in the Brit Writers' Awards.

We're both blessed and humbled by this recognition—it's hard to believe sometimes—but we're thrilled to have come up with something that seems to have struck a chord in others for some reason.

Inspired by facebook chat, we've always referred to this song our 'angry chick' song. It started with a few words; then some guitar and just throwing ideas around as they sprouted. Funnily enough, most of our discussion was about the word 'dice' and taking poetic licence to use the made up word 'dices' instead (even though the former's the correct plural) just because it felt right.

Lyrics

V1

He’s not ready; I am waiting

For a sign

A sign that says he’s mine

V2

Here’s the problem; no, I’m not stupid

I know the things you said you meant

But I know you’re not so innocent

CH

Delirious, so tell me that you’re serious about me

Can’t live without me

I’m trying to let the dices roll

But don’t need no double just to know, the game is won

It’s gone way beyond just fun,

Delirious, delirious, delirious oh, oh

V3

If she’s your fall girl, I’m not waiting

I know you’ve heard a thousand times, so

Stick it where the sun don’t - you’re making me

CH

Delirious, so tell me that you’re serious about me

Can’t live without me

I’m trying to let the dices roll

But don’t need no double just to know, the game is won

It’s gone way beyond just fun,

Delirious, delirious, delirious oh, oh

Bridge

Don’t pretend that you can’t see

The girl that’s here inside of me

Who sees the man inside of you

You’re making me, you’re making me

Don’t pretend that you can’t see

The girl that’s here inside of me

Who sees the man inside of you

You’re making me, stop making me (delirious)

CH/OUTRO

Don’t need no double just to know, the game is won

It’s gone way beyond just fun,

Delirious, delirious, delirious

Delirious, so tell me that you’re serious about me

Can’t live without me

I’m trying to let the dices roll (I’m sick of trying)

Delirious, D-d-delirious

Story

With Spinning, the lyrics were written many years before they were magically brought to life by Kat. When she played it to me for the first time I was absolutely gob-smacked (and cried).

It was inspired by my incredible friend, Stephen. If you're ever fortunate enough to find yourself in his beautiful energy, you'll experience that same 'magic' that must always be set free for others to feel. Keep spinning...

Lyrics

V1

You taught me how to breathe

You let me taste your air

Then I let you fly again

’cause you’re needed more out there

PC1

Nothing but smiles surround you

Spreading your magic everywhere

CH

So keep on spinning through the air

Keep spinning, changing those you're near

’cause I never, never, ever knew I could

Breathe

V2

You know, you taught me to feel

And you didn't, you didn’t even try

But I feel things oh so differently now

’cause I'm living, yeah I’m living on your high (high)

PC2

Taking my time in your space,

Where I'll breathe in your air, till we meet there

CH

So keep on spinning through the air

Keep spinning, changing those you're near

’cause I never, never, ever knew I could

Breathe

Bridge

How many have your wings caressed?

Who, sipped from your soul?

Each cup of breath you gave to me,

Was enough, was enough, was enough; enough to save me

CH

So keep on spinning through the air

Keep spinning, changing those you're near

’cause I never, never, ever knew I could

OUTRO

Just keep spinning, round and round

Keep spinning, oooh so glad I found you

Spinning, you helped me breathe

Spinning, you made me believe

Nah-nah, nah-nah, nah-nah-nah

Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah (to fade out)
