Story

This song was written one evening, but for the longest time neither of us liked the chorus that we’d originally come up with, lyrically and melodically.

One night we were revising our songs, and agreed that we needed something stronger, especially considering that chorus’ often carry songs.

Kat started playing and singing the existing song, but this time when she reached the chorus she started improvising the new melody we have now. The exotic, sexy feel suggested the new words. We’re both really happy now with the finished idea for this song.

Lyrics

V1

Do you think of me?

When you’re on your—

Only you can see

The me behind these walls

Walls that you broke down

The Break that keeps me warm

Whenever you’re around

V2

Let me feel my way

Through the glass of time—

Just melts away

With shutters open wide

It widens what I see

I see the dust rain down

Let magic fall on me

CH

Lay me down inside your truth

Let me find my way with you

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again

Let me lay here in your light

Where I will ache for you all night

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again

Bridge

Unsour taste of sweet disgrace

I feel you hammering my heart

Slowly needing to touch my place

Again and again and again and again

CH

Lay me down inside your truth

Let me find my way with you

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again

Let me lay here in your light

Where I will ache for you all night

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again

OUTRO

Let me lay here in your light

Where we will ache until daylight

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again; huh, huh

Again and again and again and again

Again and again and again (to fade)

Story

This song is the result of a strange dream Kat had one night.

In this instance she’d started the verse lyrics and had a melody in place. I really love the imagery in the second verse, personally, and once produced, I feel this idea could really enhance film or TV footage, especially if the theme is twisted, dark, or perhaps zombie or vampire-like.

Lyrics

V1

Here it goes, the story, of a lonely, lonely girl

Heartbroken o’er winter, with no one to warm her

Should she just, give up and, try and end it?

Cutting herself again

PC

Oh no, the voices in her head they say so

Oh no, the voices in her head they say; the voices in her head they say

CH

Will you take me? Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Dare to break this china doll in two

Try to make me; do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Lyke wake me

V2

Her coffin, looks iffy, white roses are aglow

She’s peaceful and she’s dreaming, and nobody can bother her

And when she, awakes from, the restless sleep she’s in

She wonders, she wonders, is there anything left to give?

CH

Will you take me? Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Dare to break this china doll in two

Try to make me; do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Lyke wake me; is that the best you can do?

Bridge

C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon; c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon; c’mon, c’mon, c’mon

Is that the best you can do? Whoa-oh-oh-oh

C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon; c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon; c’mon, c’mon, c’mon

Is that the best you can do? Is that the best you can do?

CH X2

Will you take me? Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Dare to break this china doll in two

Try to make me; do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Lyke wake me

Is that the best you can?

Will you take me? Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Dare to break; is that the best you can do?

Try to make me, do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Lyke wake me

OUTRO

Do, do, do, do, do, do; do, do, do, do, do, do; do, do, do, do, do, do; hmmmn

Do, do, do, do, do, do; do, do, do, do, do, do; do, do, do, do, do, do, yeah

Story

This song is one of my personal favourites, inspired by one of those heart connections that are near impossible to let go of.

I was asked by someone to try and explain why this connection was so important to me and my response was simply “I've tried, but they're just sitting here, like a rock... actually it's not a rock—they're sitting here... like a boulder just underneath my shoulder (pinpointing my heart area) and I can't let them go.”

I sent the words to Kat and presto! Again, if you're a songwriter, I urge you to look at the words and see if you could possibly predict the exquisite melody that Kat created, in finishing this song; I never saw it coming and was beyond thrilled.

Lyrics

V1

I wanna peel your clothes off

Till there’s nothing left to bare

Just you and me, eye to eye

Standing in, God’s, air

V2

I promise I won’t make you bleed

Till you’ve nothing left/else to give

No, I’m not like her

When I’m with you

CH

You sit like a boulder here,

Just underneath my shoulder and I am

Way too weak to move you

And the truth is, I don’t know if I want to

You’ve gone and changed the landscape

Around my heart, and it feels so ahhh

Why would I wanna (go and) move you away?

V3

Come kiss my white bits

Now that my sun’s asleep

In my skin, I’m trembling with awe

I’m gonna keep, till, daylight

V4

Wishing time away was just

My way to have you near

And now I’m whispering to angels, to stop hands ticking

While you

CH

Sit like a boulder here,

Just underneath my shoulder and I am

Way too weak to move you

And the truth is, I don’t know if I want to

You’ve gone and changed the landscape

Around my heart, and it feels so ahhh

Why would I wanna (go and) move you away?

Bridge

Want you to use me, slowly infuse me

If you get cold feet, come try my body heat

Intensified by a look through your eyes

When I see you, you see me

CH X2

You sit like a boulder here,

Just underneath my shoulder and I am

Way too weak to move you

And the truth is, I don’t know if I want to

You’ve gone and changed the landscape

Around my heart, and it feels so ahhh

Why would I wanna (go and) move you away?

You sit like a boulder here,

Just underneath my shoulder and I am

Way too weak to move you

And the truth is, I don’t know if I want to

You’ve gone and changed the landscape

Around my heart, and it feels so ahhh

Why would I wanna (go and) move you away?

Story

This recording gives the songwriter insight into the 'real' writing process as we chat about the song, while nutting it out.

Kat (my co-writer) and I have kept an eye on the phases of the moon for some time—it seemed like an appropriate extension to meditation and all things spiritual, as the moon is known to amplify energy at specific times during its cycle.

One night, with nothing planned to write about (we normally write organically, if and when inspiration strikes), we started chatting about how the same moon can be seen the world over. This song had words and melody being thrown at it from all directions, but overall I’d say it carries equal measures of resentment and surrender throughout its idea.

Lyrics

V1

Middle of winter

You sat in the hot seat

In the city of angels

Where lies never hide, no, no, no

V2

What you want

Speaks volumes in silence

Right here on this green floor

Don’t dare make me cry

PC

Don’t make me shout out

Get my claws out

Can’t keep me here; you can’t keep me here

CH

You’re doin’ in my head and now I need

This life force in my bed still makes me bleed

Doin’ in my head, you’ve darkened me

Oh, can you see the full moon, from where you’re at?

’cause it’s begging me ‘please take him back’

V3

Middle of summer

I’ve never felt so cold

In this lost sainted city

I know I can’t get this wrong

V4

Choose somewhere; not just anywhere

Convince me that back here, is

Where you belong

Bridge

Prove, there’s pleasure in this pain

Wash the stain away

Prove, let me hear you say

I won’t leave you, ’cause I breathe-

CH

You’re doin’ in my head and now I need

This life force in my bed still makes me bleed

Doin’ in my head, you’ve darkened me

Oh, can you see the full moon, from where you’re at?

’cause it’s begging me ‘please take him back’

Story

Free Fallin' is a song about the immediate connection you feel with someone else and the knowing and familiarity you feel in another soul’s company—a feeling of inexplicable, absolute trust... gotta love that rush :)

Lyrics

V1

I felt I knew you, before I ever saw your face

But I’m not scared, not scared or frightened

V2

It’s a journey; all hearts lead me to you

You put a new spin, on the old things, I see through

PC

You can see it across my face

I fell into your yesterdays

CH

Oh, we’ve fallen, in a good way

And I’ve never felt so free

Fallin’ deeper, yeah fallen in a good way

C’mon and take this rush with me

We’re fallen, free fall in a good way, in a good way

V3

Did you see me, did you see me; did you see me hanging off your walls?

Did each new frame, carry my name with yours?

PC

I can see it across your face

You fell into my yesterdays

CH

Oh, we’ve fallen, in a good way

And I’ve never felt so free

Fallin’ deeper, yeah fallen in a good way

C’mon and take this rush with me

We’re fallen, free fall in a good way, in a good way

Bridge

Close your eyes and just take my hand

I will show you a place to land where

Only angels would dare to stand

Take my hand, take my hand

CH/OUTRO

Oh, we’ve fallen, in a good way

Fallin’ deeper, yeah fallen in a good way

C’mon and take this rush with me

We’re fallen, free fall

Where angels stand, won’t you take my hand?

Oh yeah, we’re fallin’ in a good way

In a good way

Story

This is about as raw as we get. This recording is Kat and me, mid-songwriting session, working out the song. You can hear us discussing the song's theme, munching on crackers and laughing at our umpteenth attempt at trying to get it solid.

This song is about surrendering the need for intimacy if ‘the connection’ assured you would still experience love on a platonic level. (This song’s melody was also used as the basis for an alternate lyrics #2 version, below).

Lyrics

INTRO

If I could have one wish

What I’d wish for is this

V1

If I could have one wish

What I’d wish for is this

Just to feel, one last time

The touch of your lips

V2

I’d trade a lifetime of love

To have you back here, next to me

Even though we’d melt into

A lover’s abyss

PC

And after if, I never ask

Don’t assume that I don’t want you

Can’t let you go all the way, but

That don’t mean that I don’t want to

CH

I could say goodbye to love if you swear you’ll never leave me

Fall right back into routine if you promise you won’t need me

I could put to bed, every word you said and every soft touch on my skin

If you’d just let me in, back to the places I’ve been

If you’d just let me back in, somewhere

V3

Nobody’s ever reached before

Lost little pieces we’ve explored

But I’ll let them Rip Van Winkle while

Your pillow lays cold

V4

And though much can’t be explained

Just know your soul has left a stain on me, that’s

Never gonna fade although

My flesh may grow old

PC

And after if, I never ask

Don’t assume that I don’t want you

Can’t let you go all the way, but

That don’t mean that I don’t want to

CH

I could say goodbye to love if you swear you’ll never leave me

Fall right back into routine if you promise you won’t need me

I could put to bed, every word you said, and every soft touch on my skin

If you’d just let me in, back to the places I’ve been

If you’d just let me back, (in somewhere)

Bridge

In fairy-tales the princess finds her man who wears a crown

All I need’s, the magic kingdom, that I feel when you’re around me

CH

I could say goodbye to love if you swear you’ll never leave me

Fall right back into routine if you promise you won’t need me

I could put to bed, every word you said, and every soft touch on my skin

If you’d just let me in, back to the places I’ve been

If you’d just let me back in, somewhere

Story

The short story of this version of 'If I could have One Wish' is we met a beautiful body-artist named Eva Rinaldi who was trying to body paint for a worthy cause.

A campaign was being built in the hope that Eva could meet and paint Oprah Winfrey for charity, and she asked Kat and I to try and create something to support her quest, to be used in less than 48 hours time, when Kat would perform it (wandering minstrel style), for film footage to support her campaign.

As time was of the essence we decided to utilise an existing melody and pen new lyrics to suit Eva's brief. (If it interests you, the original version of this song is above.)

Lyrics

INTRO

If I could have one wish

What I’d wish for is this

V1

If I could have one wish

What I’d wish for is this

To have you right here next to us

Down under Sydney Opera House

V2

I’d paint a rainbow Oprah Winfrey

Across you, right here, next to me

And cover every little part of you

In beautiful hues

PC

And if your friends like John Travolta

Are just as keen to let me try

I would paint them picture perfect too

Under Sydney’s summer skies

CH

I feel a masterpiece unfolding, beneath this paintbrush that I’m holding

And I’ll leave each human canvas stained with my name, Eva Rinaldi

Dear Oprah please be brave, ’cause every coin I raise, will make this world a better place

We’d share a perfect piece of time, let the dreamer in me shine

Soul to soul I will thank you, always

V3

Promise you one thing

What I promise is this

To feel my way, every single day

With everything that I do

V4

For every blessed opportunity

Unfolding right here

I’ll serve the human spirit

Like the angel in you

I feel a masterpiece unfolding, beneath this paintbrush that I’m holding

And I’ll leave each human canvas stained with my name, Eva Rinaldi

Story

This song idea came about at the beach one afternoon, half asleep on the sand, listening to Kat tapping a rhythm on the sand close by.

People in conflict often comment that “it's not what you said; it's the way you said it” to validate their reason for feeling upset. Although people's words have been said to soothe or scar, often the tone with which something is said, can be equally destructive; that's what this song addresses.

Lyrics

V1

Colour here, is so last year

It reminds me of you; I’m not packing for two

Checking through these empty spaces

It’s been six good months with

CH

Not what you said, it’s the way you said it

Can’t miss what you miss, it is what it is

It’s not what you said, well it’s the way you say it

You left me like this,

It is what it is

V2

So I changed the tone on my mobile phone,

I killed your favourite song; I just had to move on

You should know it’s-

CH

Not what you said, it’s the way you said it

Can’t miss what you miss, it is what it is

It’s not what you said, well it’s the way you say it

You left me like this,

It is what it is, what it is

Bridge

I watched you, watch me when

Moments of us drowned and fell like salt upon the floor

You watched me, watch you when

You turned and walked away without the girl who knew

CH/OUTRO

It’s not what you said, it’s the way you said it

Can’t miss what you miss, it is what it is

It’s not what you said, well it’s the way you say it

You left me like this,

It is what it is

It’s not what you said, it’s the way you said it

You left me like this,

It is what it is

Story

This song is another of my favourite co-writes. It comes from a place of deep loss, yet the melody and phrasing that Kat came up with, lends an almost lullaby quality to it that, for me, is soothing and I find myself unconsciously singing it from time to time.

The words came first, along with a melody in my head that was B-O-R-I-N-G but having said that, I emailed them to Kat and what she created I absolutely L-O-V-E.

Lyrics

V1

Don’t talk to me; talking only makes me weak

I’ve left him now, and prayed his soul to keep

Life’s how, it happens, when you turn away or blink

And what you thought was solid ground, slowly washes down

PC1

Would I do it differently? Feel you close to me?

I don’t think so, no I don’t think so

CH

’cause anywhere you go, you go with me

Only truth can set your soul, can set your soul free

Anywhere you go, you go

Only truth can set your soul free

V2

My words are just an ocean, somewhere safe for you to swim

Don’t be frightened/afraid of the undertow, every time you step in

PC2

Hush sweet baby, don’t cry, my arms will keep you safe

And lead you to, a better place

CH

Anywhere you go, you go with me

Only truth can set your soul, can set your soul free

Anywhere you go, you go

Only truth can set your soul free

Anywhere you go, you go

With me

Bridge

Felt so sure you needed me to help you stay afloat

If I thought you’d feel unsafe I would’ve never led you in

To feel emotion running thin; my ocean’s deep

CH

’cause anywhere you go, you go with me

Only truth can set your soul, can set your soul free

Anywhere you go, you go

Only truth can set your soul free, truth can set your soul free

Anywhere you go

With me, with me, with me

Story

Kat came up with the idea for Resuscitate You. When we came together for a writing session she had the 1st verse and melody in place. We both really love the idea of healing through music, and Resuscitate You is a song about selfless love and being available to others.

Lyrics

V1

Our home, no hope so it seems

Has broken so it seems we cannot see-

Beyond the clouds, ’n’ our eyes are bloodshot mean

How can you hear the words that are unspoken?

PC

From where the sun stands

I will fall on you, I will fall down on you and

Try to make you feel brand new

CH/TAG

Resuscitate you, resuscitate you

V2

These veins, a tourniquet for life

’n’ each soul must pay the price for what it’s seen and

Done – waking through your kaleidoscope

Trying best to cope, don’t let it break you

PC

From where the sun stands

I will fall on you, I will fall down on you and

Try to make you feel brand new

CH/TAG

Resuscitate you, resuscitate you

Bridge

I didn’t see you fallin’

Into that hole, you’re in

Life won’t let you leave

Help me, help you breathe

PC X2

From where the sun stands

I’m gonna fall on you, I will fall down on you and

Try to make you feel brand new

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

From where the sun stands (from where the sun stands)

I will fall on you, I will fall down on you and

Try to make you feel like I do

CH/TAG

Resuscitate you, resuscitate you

Story

With Sink or Swim, Kat started the idea based on what she'd been observing around her, at the time.

I've been very privileged to work with someone that I just click with—it's a great creative partnership where you can be totally honest about what you feel would be best for the song. Knowing that your co-writer will not take anything you say personally gives you freedom to be brave and try and stretch out the corners of your box, every single time you write.

I love the quirky spacing and phrasing that Kat's developed, over the years we've created together (was going to say 'worked' together, but it's never felt like work.)

Lyrics

V1

I am hearing, you’ve been feeling

You’ve fallen overboard

Now I am fearing, what I’m seeing; don’t run, don’t run

PC

It’s time for you to face and taste what’s in your mouth

CH

Don’t make out that we’re okay

Throw you a line, if it helps you float till you’re ready to say

Feeling cold, you’re in too deep

Don’t sink; just swim, on words your soul can keep

V2

They’ve been saying, you’ve been hiding

Somewhere on the floor

Illusion driven, lowered down; by no one, no one to-

PC

Your womb, your safety tomb; careful you don’t drown

CH

Don’t make out that we’re okay

Throw you a line, if it helps you float till you’re ready to say

Feeling cold, you’re in too deep

Don’t sink; just swim, on words your soul can

Bridge

All of these perfect bubbles, fell heavy and sank down deep

Soaring up to the surface, can you see me; can you see?

CH

Don’t make out that we’re okay

Throw you a line, if it helps you float till you’re ready to say

Feeling cold, you’re in too deep

Don’t sink, just swim on words your soul can

Don’t make out that we’re okay

Throw you a line, if it helps you float till you’re ready to say

Feeling cold, you’re in too deep

Don’t sink, just swim on words your soul can keep

Story

This song was inspired by someone close to me who kept asking “Why haven't I inspired you enough to write something?”

Kat and I always rationalised that we only ever write when we feel inspired to do so; eventually, the day came when something was roused in our creativity, inspired by that very person. As a song, it came together by tossing ideas (both melody and words) around, and Skin On Skin was the result.

Lyrics

V1

One, one single thought

Is all I have, of you

V2

Three, three years of days

Has found a place where we can talk at ease

And midnight whispers won’t you please

PC

There is no wrong or right time

What’s yours will now be my time

Let me take you away

CH

So let me tell you this end now

I wanna feel skin on skin

Oh let me tell you this end now

Feel the breath of life begin

I wanna take each moment in

You're with me, I’m with you

V3

Five in dark daylight

You feel me reaching, for you

V4

Time where friends can fade

We’ve found a way of feeling more

Bearing souls within these walls

PC

There is no wrong or right time

What’s yours will now be my time

Let me take you away

Bridge

Who, who would o’ thought you and me

Who, who knew we’d fit, so perfectly; hmmmn, oh

Oh, confide in me

PC

There is no wrong or right time

What’s yours will now be my time

Let me take you away

CH/OUTRO

So let me tell you this end now

I wanna feel skin on skin

Oh let me tell you this end now

Feel the breath of life begin, oh yeah

I wanna take each moment in

Feel skin on skin

Let me tell you this end now

I wanna tell you this end now

I need to tell you this end now

Oooooooh (to fade)

Super Two was one of the first recordings Kat and I did. People look at the title and assume it's about us—that still makes us laugh! Inspired by a beautiful couple who were working through a challenging period in their relationship, it was written with admiration, love and hope for brighter days ahead.

Lyrics

V1

Super two, that’s what they, call me and you

Trying to fly, but I can’t reach that high

So soon, so soon

PC

If I only had the power

I’d take back every hour

You cried, you cried

Let the days we lost be now

And catch your tears

CH

I wanna walk with you

Will you walk with me?

’n’ if I need to talk to you

Will you talk so you can see?

Since you’ve been around

I’m on higher ground

With you, my angel and me

V2

Holding on, inside this empty space where you belong (where you belong)

Close your eyes, I won’t run ’n’ hide

Let seconds pass us by

PC

If I only had the power

I’d take back every hour

You cried, you cried

Let the days we lost be now

I’ll catch your tears

CH

I wanna walk with you

Will you walk with me?

’n’ if I need to talk to you—

Will you talk so you can see?

Since you’ve been around—

I’m on higher ground

With you, my angel and me

Bridge

I feel cold, lost my way (oh, no)

Wrap, wrap me in, your wings of grace

Your soul saves me

CH X2

I wanna walk with you

Will you walk with me?

’n’ if I need to talk to you—

Will you talk so you can see?

Since you’ve been around—

I’m on higher ground

With you my angel, with you my angel (angel)

Walk with me

I wanna walk with you

’n’ if you wanna talk to me—

Will you help me talk things through?

Since you’ve been around—

I’m on higher ground

With you my angel, you my angel

Just you my angel and me

Story

Throw Your White Flag Down is about recognising and bringing an end to futile fighting and instead, surrendering to something, or someone, that’s ultimately a beautiful healing force, or connection.

In this instance the words were written first and Kat came up with this brilliant quirky melody idea, something I couldn't even go close to in my head. Really love the overall idea, melodically and lyrically in this song—I feel they complement each other really well.

Lyrics

V1

I turned my back for a moment

And was under attack 'n' at war

Knew I wouldn’t reach, a place of peace, till you decided

If you were wanting her more, or me

V2

I never signed up for (this) battle

So prove to me that you’re worth the fight

’n’ let the warrior in you, tell her, she might as well go

Delusion led her cry

CH

Throw your white flag down at my feet

Come and meet me here, in between

’cause we’ve fought and we’ve won, when we’ve come undone

No, I just can’t go through that again

So throw your white flag down

V3

Surrender; let’s get back into these sheets

Waiting for an outcome to be stained

Lay here, and soothe these lovers’ wounds

Wrap them tight, where we can hide our shame

CH X2

Throw your white flag down at my feet

Come and meet me, here, in between

’cause we’ve fought and we’ve won, when we’ve come undone

No I just can’t go through that again

So throw your white flag down

At my feet

Come and meet me, here, in between

’cause we’ve fought and we’ve won, when we’ve come undone

I just can’t go through that again

So throw your white flag down

OUTRO

Won’t you throw it down, onto healing ground?

Yes, throw the white flag down

No I just can’t go through that again

So throw your white flag down

Throw it down

On to healing

Kat and I wrote Unstable after observing an increase in relationships throughout society that survive on co-dependency and where it’s often considered the norm to be rooted in toxic behaviour.

These types of unions, from my experience, only serve (long term) in helping to clarify boundaries. In the instances when we use them as a gauge/barometer to learn what we need (or don’t need) as human beings working towards maximising our earthbound potential, they can prove to be extremely worthwhile.

In this instance the words came first and Kat did her thing. I feel this song has a powerful message that could be spread far and wide with a real pop-rock vibe.

Lyrics

V1

I know, something’s not quite, sitting right with you, but it’s okay

And I know you say the enemy is near

But it’s all fake, baby it’s all fake

PC

This one-way conversation’s slowly sending me insane

But you’re not to blame for me

CH

Before I feel unstable, I’m gonna disable you

Should I love you like I do? With everything you’ve put me through

Before I feel unstable, let me disable you

What I see in front of me

Makes me feel unstable

V2

With all that I am, I’ve done all that I can to be accepted; won’t be rejected

Gonna leave this ring, I’ve thrown the white towel in, I won’t call on sin

Don’t lead me into, don’t lead me into—

PC

This one-way conversation’s slowly sending me insane

You’re not to blame, for me

CH

Before I feel unstable, I’m gonna disable you

Should I love you like I do? With everything you’ve put me through

Before I feel unstable, let me disable you

What I see in front of me

Makes me feel unstable

Bridge

You hurt when I cry, you laugh when I lie

You’re a walking, slash running contradiction

I mend what you break, when you’ve had all you can take

I can’t let you take from me

CH

Before I feel unstable, I’m gonna disable you

Should I love you like I do? With everything you’ve put me through

Before I feel unstable, let me disable you

What I see in front of me

Makes me feel unstable

Story

This recording is really raw—it's literally the mp3 Kat and I have been emailing to one another.

Initially Kat came up with a melody idea that she emailed me as an mp3, to see if it inspired me in any way. I listened to it on repeat on my laptop, waiting for it to take me somewhere else. I emailed her the lyrics back that I instantly felt from her moody melody and she, in turn, sang them and sent it back a second time.

I love the feel of this one; it's about letting go of a connection that isn't healthy.

Lyrics

V1

You’ve gone and crushed the seed and now

I watch, my soul bleeding out

’n’ no one here can help me hide

The truth, it scares me

Oooooooooh, oooooooh

V2

I feel my vein walls, wearing thin

With every breath of you that I breathe in

Wash some light across my face

Need to breathe in peace, in a better place

CH

You’re washing away

Nothing more I can say

You’re washing away, oh

Where did, we go wrong; where has the, feeling gone?

Washing away

Washing away

V3

I’m breaking through somewhere

Choosing here and now, to leave your/this heavy air

Won’t let you, dictate heartbeats

'cause every time you win, someone will face defeat

CH

You’re washing away

Nothing more I can say

You’re washing away, oh

Where did, we go wrong; where has the, feeling gone?

Washing away

Washing away

OUTRO

Wish you had stayed

But you’re washing away

Oooooooooh, oooooooh

Story

This is our song where we tried flirting with R&B potential while considering, at the time, how we'd feel in an intimate relationship with someone who ticks all of our boxes; I believe that's what created the 'steamy' feel to it. It’s been added to my wish-list to have it recorded and produced by a great R&B producer one day.

From memory, I think in this instance, Kat came up with a sexy, Spanish feel on her guitar and that inspired the lyrics.

Lyrics

V1

You got me feeling hot; I don’t know what to do

I feel like I could fly

Let me, fall upon you, like two souls crucified

I wanna feel each others high

PC

C’mon, take me through the dark

CH

Let your lips taste salt, on my skin

Time and time again, I wanna feel you breathe me in

Leave every little part, oh leave every little part of me wanting you

V2

Don’t ever wanna stop, intentions on the wall

As we break free from our minds

Saturated, (our) senses rise and fall

In consecrated time

CH

Let your lips taste salt on my skin

Time and time again, I wanna feel you breathe me in

Leave every little part, oh every little part of me wanting you

Bridge

All alone, inside this pleasure zone

C’mon, surrender; inside of me, confide in me

CH/OUTRO

Let your lips taste salt, on my skin

Time and time again, I wanna feel you breathe me in

Leave every little part, oh leave every little part of me

Wanting you

Story

These words filtered into my head when walking a local bay-walk. It was one of those days when I felt exhausted from the first step, like I was dragging a dead weight around. I kept being drawn towards the water and looking through the surface into the thick seaweed swaying to and fro on the bottom; I suddenly thought if you fell in today Kay, the way you're feeling you might just get tangled in those weeds and never surface. I turned the music in my ears down and started songwriting mentally, while I finished walking.

I sent the words to Kat and KAPOWWW!!! She came up with this totally unexpected feel to the melody that could be recorded in so many ways, even in an alternative-grunge-rock feel.

People often ask what genre we write in and we can honestly say it's impossible to pinpoint one—it depends entirely on the mood of the day and what filters through us at any given time; very little of what we do is planned or forced.

Lyrics

V1

My body feels like lead

And I am walking on the edge

What happens if I fall?

And start sinking, what then?

V2

If I get caught amongst the weeds

I/They might choke, till I can’t breathe

Hate that you made me feel

What was I thinking?

PC

Only ever tried to heal, not to hurt you

Wanted you to feel like I do, like I do

CH1

You were the one, who brought me to life

And now you’re gone, the feeling cuts like a knife

I’m hiding a scar that’s been left by your soul

And I’m wondering, if I’ll ever, feel whole again

’cause you were the one, you were the one, you were the one

V3

I can’t stop thinking ’bout tick tock

I wanna stop this body clock and rewind

To the last time; feel the last time

When your body lay with mine

CH2

You were the one, who brought me to life

And now you’re gone, the feeling cuts like a knife

I’m hiding a scar that’s been left by your soul

And I’m wondering, if I’ll ever, feel whole again

(’cause) You were the one

Bridge

You were the one; you made me feel, yeah

You were the one who broke the seal

You had to run, before you, fell

CH1

You were the one, who brought me to life

And now you’re gone, the feeling cuts like a knife

I’m hiding a scar that’s been left by your soul

And I’m wondering, if I’ll ever, feel whole again

You were the one, you were the one, you were the one
